Brookfield EMS offers Emergency Medical Responder and Emergency Medical Technician training in a setting built on experience, professionalism, and community service. Brookfield EMS is a division of Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., and its training program, which started in 2021, reflects the organization’s commitment to preparing new providers for the important responsibilities of emergency medical care. Since its beginning, the program has helped educate and prepare over 180 graduates for service in EMS and related public safety roles.
The EMR and EMT programs at Brookfield EMS are designed to give students the knowledge, hands-on skills, and confidence needed to respond effectively in emergency situations. Whether a student is just beginning in EMS or pursuing a deeper level of prehospital education, the training emphasizes patient care, critical thinking, teamwork, and real-world application. Instruction includes both classroom learning and practical skill development so students are well prepared for the demands of emergency response. The program is led by experienced professionals who bring both field knowledge and teaching expertise to the classroom. Deputy Chief of EMS Wayne Woodtke serves as course coordinator, and James Cooper is the lead instructor. Both have many years of experience as paramedics and EMS instructors, giving students the benefit of learning from educators who understand not only the academic requirements of EMS education, but also the realities of patient care in the field.
Classes are held at Brookfield EMS headquarters, providing students with a dedicated learning environment that is closely connected to an active emergency services organization. This setting helps create a professional and supportive atmosphere where students can feel part of the EMS mission from the start. In addition, staff are always ready to help out, offering encouragement and support throughout the training process. Since its beginning in 2021, the Brookfield EMS training program has focused on building capable, compassionate emergency responders who are ready to serve their communities. As part of Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., Brookfield EMS continues to provide EMR and EMT education that is grounded in service, strengthened by experience, and centered on student success.
